Jane Austen Society : Annual General Meeting

This event takes place each year in mid-July, in commemoration of the date of Jane Austen's death. The location is Chawton, the small village near Alton in Hampshire, where the author spent the final eight years of her life.

The AGM is scheduled for 11.30 am and open only to members of the Society. The afternoon event is a lecture by an academic or similarly distinguished speaker on a wide range of topics related to Jane Austen's life and works. An (optional) church service concludes the proceedings for the afternoon.

Light refreshments are available throughout the day. The Jane Austen House Museum, also located in Chawton, is open for visitors throughout the course of the day.

The date for this year's AGM is Saturday 13 July, with speaker Dr . Full details of the day's proceedings (including directions to the location) will appear on this page in early May.
