The Jane Austen Cambridge Group was formed in November 1997 and its patron is Baroness James of Holland Park,
P.D.James, who enthralled those gathered at Chawton in the summer of 1998 with 'Emma Considered as a Detective Story'.
Her connections with Cambridge and her love of Jane Austen's work are well known.
The Group's academic adviser is Dr. Mara Kalnins, a Fellow of Corpus Christi. Among the membership are two Jane Austen authors:
Christopher Brooke (Jane Austen: Illusion and Reality) and David Nokes (Jane Austen: A Life).
The late Valerie Grosvenor Myer (Authors in their Age - Jane Austen and An Obstinate Heart and Jane Austen A Biography)
and Margaret Hammond (Relating to Jane) were both very active members of the Group until their deaths.
