Presentation of the newly-created Godmersham Park Library website, Reading with Austen: why and how it was created and what can be done with it.
The Brian Southam Memorial Lecture
Speaker: Dr Katie Halsey, Senior Lecturer in English Studies, University of Stirling.
Title: 'Picturing the Reader in Jane Austen's Novels'
Representations and illustrations of readers in Jane Austen's novels, and the relationships between the two.
Lecture by Professor Richard Cronin, Professor Emeritus, University of Glasgow.
Title: 'Reading with Jane Austen and Jane Austen Reading'
Jane Austen as writer and reader.
Lecture by Dr Nicola Trott, Senior Tutor and Tutor for Graduates, Balliol College, University of Oxford.
Title: 'Critical Responses: Reception and Perception of the Novels'
Entry to the venue on the day will be from 9.00 am. Talks begin at 10.00 am and will finish at 4.30 pm.
Coffee will be served in the morning, and tea in the afternoon. Lunch is at own provision; either a packed lunch or in several restaurants nearby.
Registration fees for non-Society members will be £35, Society members £25, students and un-waged £15. To obtain the Society rate, members MUST provide their
membership number on the form.
